Do they know it’s Christmas?
I was a teen when this song was released. It was followed by the legendary concert Live Aid, in support of Africa.

Get Johannes signed!
Great unsigned band, looking to get signed. Visit their website: http://johannesmusic.com. They’ve played twice at Rock on the Mount, a music festival my church hosts. Nick, the bass player, writes on their YouTube page:
We Need your help! Please write letters to:

-telling them that you think we’re awesome.

Art Garfunkel’s “Bright Eyes”
From the movie:
“How can a light that burned so brightly, suddenly burn so pale?”
Art Garfunkel’s recording can be found on the album Garfunkel (there’s a live version too, on Garfunkel: Across America). Declan, a much younger artist, offers the song on Thank You — quite exceptional.

Johnny Cash — Redemption
This is my favorite Johnny Cash song, featured on his first American Recording’s release. I regard it his finest work.

“Christian Rock: Blessing or Blasphemy?”

It’s fitting that a day after I write a post promoting the Christian rock band Johannes (see here), I should happen upon this article: “Christian Rock: Blessing or Blasphemy?” Essentially, the author, Terry Watkins, decides Rock music is blasphemy. Ironically, his argument is based on secular authorities, not scripture; his position is founded on statements by Michael Jackson, not the Holy Spirit. Only in passing does he reference the scriptures (the King James Bible only), drawing on passages that have nothing to do with rock music at all.

Polycarp: “Eighty-six years I have served him, and he never did me any wrong. How can I blaspheme my King who saved me?”
Damon Rexroad’s wonderful song, “Polycarp.” The story of Polycarp, a second-century martyr, can be found at CCEL.

A rock creed
“A Celebration” was released in the 1980s as a single, between U2′s October and War albums. It’s something of a modern, rock-n-roll creed.
