About Mark Adams
Agabus.com is a theological blog named for the New Testament prophet Agabus (Acts 11:28 and 21:10). It is a private effort, written and maintained by Mark Adams (that’s me). By “forging a new fundamentalism” I seek to distinguish between the essentials of Christian faith and the non-essentials. As the Reformation slogan says, “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials liberty; in all things charity.” At the core of Christian unity is Jesus Christ, who draws all people to himself. Our aim should be agreement in the essentials, liberty in the non-essentials, and a whole lot of grace in between.
I offer the Apostles’ Creed as my statement of faith.
I am a fundamentalist in the oldest sense of the term: I believe in the inspiration of scripture, the deity of Christ, blood atonement, the virgin birth and miracles. I do not believe fundamentalism should extend beyond the essentials. My spiritual interests include ancient church history, general theology, Christian mysticism (as distinguished from other forms of religious mysticism), and fundamentalism. I am a graduate of Bethany College (1997), with a baccalaureate degree in English literature. I minored in Bible and Theology.
Today, I am the youth pastor at Mountain Bible Church in Los Gatos, California, and an English teacher at James Lick High School in East San Jose. I’ve documented a large part of those experiences at my photo page, which can be found at http://flickr.com/photos/agabus. I’m also on Facebook (in the sidebar).
My interests also span the artistic realm. I’m a novice song-writer and guitarist (see my music link in sidebar).
Final note: I do not go by “Agabus” — that’s simply the name of my blog (see article on “Internet presence“).
